Built responsibly
Canvas Hotel is what you might call "off grid." No infrastructure has been built for the camp. If the camp is taken down, the traces in nature will disappear within a couple of years. The yurts are mounted on stilts on the bare rock to have as little impact on nature as possible.
Our camp runs 100% on solar power
Our entire camp is powered by an advanced, local energy system consisting of solar panels and a brand-new, high-efficiency lithium battery bank. We have ample power for everything you need, including charging our e-bikes. We nonetheless encourage you to be mindful of your resource consumption during your stay – for example by turning off the lights in your tent when you are not there.
Locally sourced food and the fight against plastic
Our food philosophy is about pure flavour, seasonal ingredients and minimal packaging. We work closely with local heroes such as Holte Gård, Åmli Gaardsmeiere and Akketun Fisk to give you an authentic food experience.
- No single-use items: We do not use disposable cups, plates or portion packets at our dining area whatsoever. Everything is served on proper reusable tableware.
- Always green options: We actively work to reduce meat consumption. There are always wholesome and delicious vegetarian/vegan alternatives at every meal. Each meal is presented verbally by the hosts before we sit down to eat, so you will hear exactly where your ingredients come from.
- Let us know in advance: So that we can plan our purchases precisely and eliminate food waste, we ask you to register any allergies or requests for vegetarian food well in advance of your arrival.
Considerate and safe trail riding
Our guided tours on the rugged e-trail bikes from Specialized take place on nature's terms. Norwegian nature is fragile, and we follow strict principles to protect soil, vegetation and wildlife. We always follow the established trail network to prevent erosion damage to the forest floor. Our guides will give clear instructions on how to ride in the most nature-friendly way possible.
Climate-efficient travel and transport
Logistics into a wilderness camp requires planning. To keep fuel consumption in our Isuzu operations vehicle to a minimum, we have fixed routines for transport:
- Carpooling: We encourage all our guests to coordinate and carpool to the meeting point in Treungen where possible.
- Fixed transport times: Inbound and outbound transport between the car park and the camp takes place at fixed, stated times. By grouping guests into batches, we avoid unnecessary shuttle traffic and empty runs in and out of the wilderness.

Norrøna Canvas is proudly certified as an Eco-Lighthouse (Miljøfyrtårn). This means we are measured against the strictest requirements for environmental management, working environment, procurement and sustainability in the tourism industry.
