FAQ

Varg is an adventure platform. We bridge the gap between relaxation and expedition. Our guests usually dream of becoming part of an adventure yachtsman crew, so we respect that by inviting you to be part of the team. Whether that’s helping with the sails or sharing stories in the pilothouse, you’re part of the crew and not just a passenger.

Varg offers a level of privacy you just can't get on a larger ship. We’re small enough to enter the tiniest, most cozy harbors that the big ships can't reach. Plus, each cabin has its own private bathroom and shower, which is a rare luxury on a sailing vessel of this size.

Our onboard chef creates a high-end experience that pairs local, wild-caught ingredients like King Crab and reindeer with global culinary styles. You’ll have a hearty breakfast, a self-service lunch station to pack for your day’s mission, and a formal, shared dinner in the evening.

Yes! Varg has a dedicated gear garage and a custom-engineered Munters dehumidifier system. We’ve integrated ventilated, heated air directly into the stairs and interior storage, so your technical gear is bone-dry and warm by the time you wake up.

Despite being off-grid, we don't compromise on hygiene or comfort. We have clean, modern composting toilets and high-quality shower facilities. One of our guest favorites is the outdoor bathtub experience, there’s nothing quite like a hot soak under the open sky.

As part of our commitment to responsibility, we’ve reduced fuel consumption and emissions by about 75% by installing a new Volvo D4 engine and a massive 37kWh lithium battery bank. You’ll also notice it’s significantly quieter with much less vibration than traditional yachts of this size.

Absolutely! While biking is a major draw, the terrain around Canvas is incredible for hiking, yoga, trail running or even fishing. You can explore the vast plateaus, hidden lakes, and dramatic ridges at your own pace.

Recovery is a huge part of the experience. We have a wood-fired sauna below deck with portholes and a skylight and a wood-fired bathtub on the upper deck. It’s the best way to defrost after a day in the snow, especially if the Northern Lights or Midnight Sun make an appearance.

No worries! We have a high-capacity watermaker that produces 100 liters of fresh water per hour. This ensures that even when we are deep in the fjords, all three guest cabins can use their private showers and we can still fill the wood-fired bathtub on the upper deck.

Not at all. Our Skippers hold professional D5 licenses and have logged thousands of miles in places like Svalbard and Greenland. They handle the technical stuff, but are happy to teach you the ropes if you’re curious.

For activities like skiing or hiking, our guides tailor every route to the group’s experiance and actual ability.

Safety always comes first. Varg is fully insulated with a 24kW Kabola central heater and dual defrosters to keep the windows from fogging. We even have an electric bimini and a heated glass windscreen to keep the cockpit protected. If the weather stops us from skiing or sailing, we move to Plan B. This can include everything from deep-sea fishing to visiting local villages.

Yes! Varg was built in Arendal back in 1996 to be the ultimate Arctic expedition vessel. The hull is 7 to 5mm reinforced steel with bulkheads every 40cm. Her bow is even reinforced with a massive 15cm thick steel rod connecting directly to the long keel to protect the propeller and rudder from ice. In 2023, we essentially built a new ship in an old hull, replacing every engine, wire, and pipe on board.

While we’d love for you to unplug, Varg is equipped with Starlink satellite internet. It helps us monitor weather in real-time and lets you check in with home, though keep in mind, speeds can vary, depending on the steepness of the surrounding fjords.
