Canvas Telemark

FAQ

Canvas is often described as a "Norwegian Safari Lodge." It’s an off-grid glamping camp built in the heart of the Telemark wilderness, specifically designed for those who love nature and outdoor activity. The atmosphere is intimate, communal, and deeply connected to the landscape.

We believe in true disconnection. There are no cars allowed at the camp; guests arrive by walking or cycling the final 2km into the wilderness. The camp is built on stilts to minimize our environmental footprint, and while we offer high-end comfort, the experience is about luxury in its simplest, most natural form.

Guests stay in traditional yurts. Each is equipped with comfortable beds, high-quality linens, and a wood-burning stove to keep things cozy during the cooler Norwegian nights. Each yurt has a private bathroom and views of the lake and mountains. It's the comfort of a hotel room with the soul of a tent.

Not at all. While Canvas is famous for its world-class "slickrock" mountain biking trails, we cater to all levels. Our expert guides are there to help beginners learn the basics or to show experienced riders the most challenging hidden gems in the area. We recommend that if you plan to bring your own bike to Canvas, it should be a full-suspension E-MTB. This is not required, but highly encouraged. We rent Specialized Turbo Levo E-MTBs at the camp so there is no hassle to lug your own bike. Helmet is also included in the rental.

Despite being off-grid, we don't compromise on hygiene or comfort. We have clean, modern composting toilets and high-quality shower facilities. One of our guest favorites is the outdoor bathtub experience, there’s nothing quite like a hot soak under the open sky.

The culinary experience is a cornerstone of life at Canvas. All meals are prepared over wood-fired stoves and open grills. We use local ingredients to create hearty, gourmet meals that are perfect for refueling after a day on the trails.

Absolutely! While biking is a major draw, the terrain around Canvas is incredible for hiking, yoga, trail running or even fishing. You can explore the vast plateaus, hidden lakes, and dramatic ridges at your own pace.

Evenings at Canvas revolve around "hygge." We gather around the central bonfire to share stories of the day’s adventures, enjoy a drink, and relax in our wood-fired saunas. It is a very social, friendly environment where guests often make lifelong friends.

We encourage a digital detox, but we do have solar power available in common areas for charging essential devices like phones or GPS units. Wi-Fi is limited, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the wilderness experience.

Totally! If you choose to bike it is required to be accompanied by a guide but you can also enjoy a solo hike or just relax by the lake with a nice book if you'd like.
